S. Michael Sury is an internationally recognized expert in financial economics and an award-winning professor, having taught undergraduate, MS, and MBA courses, including at the University of Texas, University of California, Santa Clara University, DePaul University, and San Diego State University. His pioneering work in the areas of portfolio optimization, asset allocation, and risk management, has been applied by sovereign entities, institutional investors, and family offices worldwide. He began his career in finance at Goldman Sachs, & Co. in the early '90s, first as a professional trader in the firm's Equities Division, and then as a Vice President in the Investment Management Division. He later formed a new investment firm that grew to become a nationally top ranked wealth manager, according to Bloomberg Magazine, Wealth Manager Magazine, and Financial Advisor Journal.
Prior to graduate school, Mr. Sury worked as a criminal investigator and later as a contract consultant. In law enforcement, he served with the Organized Crime Task Force (Central Texas), and later assisted in the development of one of the nation's first task forces dedicated to high tech and economic crime investigations (Northern California).
