Michael Turpin

I am a Cyber Security Analyst for the US Navy and have served in multiple security roles over the past ten years. Currently, I manage a Cyber Threat Intelligence team in Suffolk, VA.

While I have enjoyed the challenges and personal growth that I gained in the Navy, I am excited to begin my next chapter and meeting this whole set of new challenges that lie ahead. My professional interests lie in ICS and SCADA systems, analyzing Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) Actors, Network Security Architecture, Risk Management Framework, and developing Risk Management Processes.

Before joining the cyber community, I was an Aviation Electrician on F/A-18 aircraft and served three amazing tours at VFA-125 and VFA-22 in Lemoore, CA, and VFA-83 in Oceana, VA. During this time, I also squeezed in a tour as a Navy Recruiter at NRD Nashville and was the Recruiter in Charge at Navy Recruiting Station Fayetteville, AR.

I live in Chesapeake, VA, with my wife, Samantha, and daughter Chelsea. I have another daughter Morgan who lives with her husband Aaron in Virginia Beach and a son, Justyn, who lives in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In my spare time, which has taken a hit in the last few years, my interests include working on cars, general mechanical and electrical tinkering, carpentry, and golf.

I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2020, with a B.S. in Security and Risk Analysis - Information and Cyber Security (GPA 3.62).I hold certifications from CompTIA and EC-Council, including Network+, Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker, and Certified Network Defense Architect. I am also currently preparing for the CISSP test.
