Michael Volpi

Mike Volpi is a partner at Index Venture - the leading venture capital firm in Europe. Prior to joining the Index Ventures' London office, Mike Volpi served as Chief Executive Officer for Internet media company Joost. Before that, he was at Cisco Systems, for 13 years where he served as Chief Strategy Officer as well as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Routing and Service Provier unit. As an undergraduate student at Stanford University, Mike Volpi studied Mechanical Engineering. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science, Mike Volpi spent an additional year at Stanford pursuing his Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering. Mike Volpi began his career as a design engineer at Hewlett Packard's Optoelectronics Division. Mike Volpi subsequently returned to Stanford University to earn his MBA from the university’s Graduate School of Business. Mike joined Cisco Systems in 1994 in the early days of the Business Development group. He developed the organization into one of the best-known acquirors in the technology sector. His tenure was punctuated by the promotion to Chief Strategy office is 2000. Mike Volpi the shifted to an operating role and became Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Routing and Service Provider Group. Responsible for a broad spectrum of operations, Mike Volpi lead Cisco's largest business to reclaim market leadership in a number of sectors including the top position in Service Provider routing. Subsequent to his roles at Cisco, Mike Volpi joined Joost, serving as Chief Executive Officer. Joost was a pioneer in Internet video. He lead the company for 2 years until its sale to Adconion Media. Mike Volpi then transitioned into the venture capital industry, becoming a Partner at Index Ventures. A member of the firm’s technology and seed teams, Mike Volpi operates in the London office and serves on a number of boards including Cloud.com, GroupSpaces, Sonos, Soundcloud, and Lookout. He is also on the board of directors of the leading mobile telecommunication equipment company - Ericsson.
