The guy in the picture is Michael Nguyen. He is a third-year student at the University of Guelph and is majoring in the Biological Sciences. Michael is interested in everything and anything, which is why he is in such a general, open major. The Biological Sciences major allows Michael the flexibility to try a variety of courses. He loves to learn and experience new things whenever possible. A few of his favourite non-science courses have been philosophy, English, and sociology.
The field of science that interests him the most is biology. Michael enjoys learning about how objects function and how their pieces are put together. Biology provides Michael with the answers to many of his questions about nature. Michael’s high school biology teacher, Ms. DeMelo, is someone in the science world that greatly inspired him. The way she taught the course enhanced his interests and desire to learn more about biology. Ms. DeMelo, implemented unique field trips and dissection labs which were incredibly helpful towards Michael’s understanding of biology.
Michael is currently unsure of his current career goals. As a result, he is keeping an open mind to all opportunities. Michael believes that an occupation that deals with teaching would be a good fit. He has had many volunteer opportunities in classroom settings and has also had brief experience as a tutor.
An interesting fact about Michael is that he is bilingual, being able to speak both Vietnamese and English. Michael is a Vietnamese-Canadian; both of his parents are 100% Vietnamese and were born in Vietnam. Michael was born in Canada and is proud to be the first member of his family to be attending university. When Michael is home from school, he spends most of his spare time with work. Michael started working at McKesson Canada last summer and he loved it. During the winter break, he went back and worked there again until he had to return to school. McKesson Canada has given Michael the opportunity to push his work ethic and adapt to constantly changing environments. Working also provides Michael with financial support, allowing him to relieve his parents from financial burden.
When Michael is not working, his hobbies are playing Tetris for long periods at a time, losing at billiards, and sometimes winning at board and card games. Michael also enjoys watching critically-acclaimed movies and listening to weird, hipster music.
