Since 1994, Michael Vranos and his team at Ellington Management Group have invested in a wide range of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) and asset-backed securities (ABS), with notable success in the area of collateralized mortgage obligation (CMO) trading. With more than three decades of investment banking experience, Michael Vranos spent the first part of his career with Kidder, Peabody & Co. as a bond trader and later as senior managing director and head of CMO trading. At the end of his tenure with Kidder, Peabody, Mr. Vranos founded Ellington Management Group and soon positioned the company as a key player in the MBS derivatives and MBS/ABS credit markets. Ellington Management Group has handled more than $20 billion in CMOs over the years, with $6 billion of hedge fund capital currently under management.

In recent years, Michael Vranos has grown Ellington Management Group by launching specialty finance company Ellington Financial LLC in 2007, followed by its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in 2010. Mr. Vranos went on to form Ellington Residential Mortgage REIT, which had its IPO in 2013. Both of these firms pursue various opportunities in real estate-related investments, including agency and non-agency residential MBS, derivatives, commercial mortgage loans, and more.
