Finance, Operations, and Business Development in Kenya

Hello, I’m Michael. I am a holder of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), Post-Graduate in Development Finance, and an MBA (Finance) candidate. Over the years, I have worked in finance and operations with government, profit and not-for-profit organizations including B2B and B2C tech firms in Sub-Saharan Africa and International markets. I creatively contribute to solving problems with leaders and for teams. Sometimes the solutions are million- dollar ideas, other times they’re happier teams or a better experience. I am curious about the intersection between people, technology, business, and communities. I have spent my entire career contributing to solving problems that have emerged as a result of this convergence.

I have continuously consolidated my skills and have been lucky enough to start a path of working and studying internationally. I have a special bias for impact-oriented ventures and highly motivated to first-hand experience to organizations that are dedicated towards creating an impact. I have aligned my contribution to areas of positive impact to SDGs with the most recent ones been on SDG 1 (No poverty – financial inclusion), SDG 2 (Zero hunger) and SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth). My most notable contribution to SDG promotion is through my proposition on Enhancing Financial Access for Smallholder Farmers in Kenya (The Chama Concept) notably contributing towards bridging the gap between the agricultural industry and the banking sector reflected in a $440B agri- financing gap across the globe.

With a continuing career progression, I have come to realize to Zig Ziglar’s saying that YOUR ATTITUDE, NOT YOUR APTITUDE, WILL DETERMINE YOUR ALTITUDE. To be successful in any area in life you need to have the right attitude, which means you have to approach any task or job with determination, tenacity and above all plenty of enthusiasm. I have been lucky enough to manage at a relatively young age (23) and led colleagues towards an objective that brings positive output in a leading Microsoft Partner in Kenya as Finance and Administration Manager.
