Michael Wilner

Claremont, California

A distinguished student wielding experience from a number of sought-after field positions, Michael A. Wilner will graduate from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, in May of 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). A recipient of the McKenna Achievement Award merit scholarship for all four years of his undergraduate education, Michael Wilner also functions as an Edward J. Sexton PPE Fellow, an honor that recognizes the students that pursue the interdisciplinary major. Both before and during his tenure as a student at Claremont McKenna, Michael A. Wilner has consistently obtained valuable learning experiences outside the classroom.

Before matriculating to Claremont McKenna, Michael A. Wilner completed several demanding internships with political figures. In his first internship, he acted as Casework Intern with Senator Charles Schumer and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The post required that Michael A. Wilner facilitate the expedition and acquisition of green cards to citizens of greater New York. Michael A. Wilner subsequently became a Congressional Intern for Senator Joseph Lieberman, a role in which he gained invaluable communications savvy by reporting on current events and leading tours of the Capitol Building.

Outside of his academic achievements at Claremont McKenna, Michael A. Wilner served as Financial Analyst Intern with Stern Stewart & Co in New York City; a Newspaper Intern & Reporter with The Straits Times in the Republic of Singapore; and a Broadcast Intern with the BBC in London. Most recently, Michael A. Wilner gained additional journalism skills as Broadcast Intern with CNN’s program Anderson Cooper 360˚. In this capacity, he composed news briefs each evening, helped manage the blog, and researched and wrote for the network’s website.

Michael A. Wilner was the Editor-in-Chief of The Claremont McKenna College Forum and supervised a staff of 50. By virtue of this position, he was a member of the Associated Students of Claremont McKenna College (ASCMC). Michael A. Wilner spends his leisure time playing the piano or traveling abroad.
