Hello, I am Michele Ko. I am currently studying at Queen's University to become a teacher in the Primary and Junior Division. I graduated with a BAH in Economics from Queen's University in 2015.

I believe that learning has all potentialities: it can involve hard work, fun, creativity, frustration, intuition, disbelief, wonder, and those rewarding “aha” moments. Students are individuals and thus they bring unique backgrounds, assumptions, ideals, confidence levels, and aspirations to the class. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.

As an educator, I believe it is important to recognize that I see myself in a supportive role, as a mentor, and not as someone sitting in judgement. It is important that the teacher shows genuine concerns about the students and tries to establish safe and positive relationships with them. If the students don’t sense that the teacher cares about them as individuals, or try to establish any relationships, nothing else will matter. I believe it is my role as an educator to help students develop a deep love and respect for themselves, their peers, and their school environment. I hope to create a safe and positive learning environment so that when the voice of each student is heard, the environment evolves where students feel free to express themselves. I believe that establishing relationships and building a sense of community is vital in the classroom. An open heart and open mind are the foundation of my teaching.

I am also passionate about the arts. I love crafts, DIY projects, painting and sketching. I also love nature, hiking, and children's literature. I hope that as an educator I can share my own passion for learning with my students.
