St Maarten, located in the Caribbean area of the coast of Venezuela, is a remote island nation bordered by Venezuela and Belize. Although there are hospitals on the island, due to its remote location it is difficult to get treatment from those that are actually located on the island. Consequently, all medical procedures that need to be performed require the use of an electronic health authorization system. In St Maarten, one has to fill out an application for health insurance before they can be admitted into the hospital. It may be difficult to obtain the authorization to see a doctor without proper identification.
It is easy to apply for an electronic health authorization. Once you have applied for and received a St Maarten electronic health authorization card, you can begin the process of receiving care on the island. Upon receiving this card, a pre-authorization is issued for a specified period of time that you can then use for receiving medical care on the island.
You may lose your authorization if you do not show up to your appointment. For that reason, it is critical that you go to the doctor's office as soon as you realize that you do not have sufficient coverage. The authorization will be revoked if you don't meet the requirements.
As you can see, to obtain medical care in St Maarten, you will need an electronic health card. Therefore, there is no need to worry about health care outside of the island when you visit. Although a St Maarten insurance policy does not cover emergency or medical care outside the Caribbean, you can purchase supplemental cards that will give you access to the island's health care services. These supplemental plans are intended for travelers and visitors who don't meet the standard health care requirements of their St Maarten electronic health card. Make sure you are familiar with St Maarten's current health care laws and regulations before you travel.
