Nice to meet you! My website is called "The Curious Linguist" and you'll be directed to it when you click the link above.

My name is Michelle and I'm currently a biochemistry student at the University of Warwick, UK. I came to the UK in 2010 and stayed ever since. I earned myself a BA in Linguistics and Phonetics and an MA in Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies from the University of Leeds before going to Warwick.

Originally I'm from Germany, and at 16 I went to Japan as an Exchange Student. I lived with a Japanese Family and studied at a local Japanese High School for 11 months. During my time in Japan I was able to secure myself a place at Barton Court Grammar School in Kent, UK, to study the International Baccalaureate (access to the IB programme is very limited in Germany). Upon returning to Europe at 17, I spent a few weeks at my parents' home and then set off to the UK. I finished sixth form and applied to study linguistics at the University of Leeds and was accepted.

As soon as I started university it was clear to me that I wanted to write for the student newspaper. It's something that I still do more than 4 years later and did until I graduated in 2020.

I study linguistics because it is "the scientific study of language" and I've always been fascinated by language and liked the idea of studying it from a scientific viewpoint.

It's not just that I like learning a language but also about language; i.e what goes on behind the curtains so to speak. Topics such as Psycholinguistics (where Linguistics meets Psychology), Language Acquisition (language learning), and Language Processing (eg. visual word recognition) are some of my favourite topics I've studied at university and am keen to learn more about; especially with my dissertation coming up.

That's why I've created my blog "thecuriouslinguist.com" . It gives me the perfect online presence to show my commitment to writing, learning and thirst of knowledge regarding language, linguistics, travel and science.

I have also been very interested in learning as much as possible about entrepreneurship (as time permits). Over time I realised how inspiring entrepreneurs are and how much I've grown just by being around them and making conversations. For me, entrepreneurship is also about personal growth.
