I am a mirror when I write; reflecting in on myself in order to convey an emotional message that the reader can relate to. Being an only child, I tend to spend a lot of time alone, which I need in order to stay sane. Usually I collect my thoughts when I read in my room, or go for a run. But above all, I keep a poetry book, which contains my soul in written words. I listen to music and write about whatever I am feeling. Usually it is an outlet for any negative thoughts I have, and like a release valve, any pressure I feel expels. When I write poetry, I always pour emotion into it, and that spills over into my more formal writing for school. My essays tend to veer toward a more creative path, often containing figurative language. Although I know that there is a time and a place for creative writing pieces, I do think that a couple good metaphors can convey a message more effectively than a strict and scholarly approach. My writing always turns out better when I allow my own feelings to trickle into the piece.
