A little about myself….I’m an 8th grade Special Education teacher from Connecticut. I got into teaching later than many, having earned a B.A. in Criminology and working in the social services field for 7 years before going back to school to become an educator. I LOVE my job! There’s no other way to put it. Teaching and learning gets me excited, especially when it’s fun, hands on and challenges my thinking. I try to bring this excitement into my classroom everyday with a smile, a positive upbeat attitude and new and interesting lessons that help my learners understand the concepts being taught in a way that’s best suited to their learning needs. Nothing compares to seeing a child's curiousity piqued about a new topic or the excitement and accomplishment that radiates from them when they've mastered a skill. It's this curiousity that will lead to a lifetime journey down the road of learning. Outisde of the classroom, I combine my love for teaching with my other passion, horses, by working as a facilitator for an equine assisted therapy program designed to positively impact clients coping with loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and other challenges.
I recently started a Master’s of Education program to continue my own learning. Part of my degree requirement is to develop a Personal Learning Environment or PLE that will document my journey not only through my program of study but also as a growing educator. I look forward to sharing in the journey with you!
