I would like to cultivate awareness through food and mindfulness. I invite you to join me.
In the same way I have worked with patients in my psychology practice to locate, identify, and reconcile their experiences, I would like to do the same with the relationship people have with food and eating.
I want to establish psychological terroir or terroir of self vis-a-vis food. That 'sense of place' that is so fundamental to our concept of 'home,' the locating and finding our authentic selves, rooting ourselves to the physical land as a way of reassuring and psychologically anchoring ourselves to values and beliefs when life is unpredictable and disappointing. Psychological terroir is a sort of tracing back and rooting of the mind, body, and soul.
‘Momentary,’ is the culmination of these ideals: in the presence of loss, anxiety, stress, boredom we can still experience terroir of self and restore comfort, safety, trust, through food, if only for a moment. 'Momentary' will return you to tradition, region, home, and the by product of this will hopefully be a re-learning of origins and a reminder to stay connected.
‘Momentary’ sets will pop up at farmer’s markets, food cooperatives, farm-to-table restaurants in the SF Bay Area and will be experiential in nature. 8-10 members will gather each night around a communal table and be encouraged to engage all their senses as they share a hearty meal.
Behind every person's narrative is a craving for familiarity, comfort, safety and rest. Food is often the most simple, immediate, and effective medium to seeking comfort or perhaps to simply renounce the sojourned life. There are healing properties in growing, planting, foraging, harvesting, tending, creating, tasting, savoring, and most of all, nourishing.
I believe we can find ourselves again through the reconstruction of intimate and soulful relationships with food.
If you would like to collaborate with Momentary for private events, retreats, fundraisers, educational purposes, or would simply like to be a part of Momentary, please email me: [email protected].
