Journalist in Honolulu, Hawaii
Aloha, I am a Hawaii-based journalist. I am interested in news from the Asia-Pacific region, especially the Hawaiian Islands, and have covered the area extensively with a local and global audience in mind.
Currently I am the Night Editor for BuzzFeed News, where I work with a breaking news team that is located around the world and report on culture, technology, science and the environment.
Before BuzzFeed, I was a Hawaii stringer for the New York Times and a contributor to the Honolulu Civil Beat. Prior to this, I lived in the Bay Area and wrote for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Bold Italic, and the Bay Citizen. I also wrote a weekly column for the San Francisco Chronicle on music.
I started my career as a Society of Professional Journalist Fellow at Honolulu Magazine, where I wrote about local artists, protecting the ocean, hiking books, and reasons to love Hawaii. While in college, I interned at PBS Hawaii, Hawaii News Now (KHNL News), and McSweeney’s Book Publishing in San Francisco.
