Welcome to my blog, Fearlessly Facing Depression. My name is Michelle Josette Jackson, and I'm excited to share with you my daily journey of living with and managing my depression. I hope that in visiting my blog, you who also live with depression, will find comfort in knowing that there is hope for you and that you are not alone in living with depression. I've battled with my disease for the last 30 years. Though I didn't know what was really wrong with me until my early thirties when I relocated from Michigan to Indiana. Now today, I'm not only living with depression but I'm free in discussing it with others and getting stronger everyday.
I come from a family of caring, colorful, loving, dynamic, talented and intelligent people. My family is really no different than anyone elses. Depression runs on both sides of the family. Both my paternal and maternal grandmothers suffered from and battled with the more serious forms of depression. Though never formally diagnosed, it is believe that they both struggled with Bipolar disorder.
I saw my first therapist at 14 and throughout my adult life have sought counseling on several different occasions. However, it wasn't until 2011 that I finally decided for the love of my child and partner, that I would find out what was really wrong with me. While I knew I suffered from depression, I thought perhaps this is something far more serious as the mood swings and hyper sensitivity was out of control. So, I sought out help at a local hospital and from there I started drug therapy as well as one on one cousenling. I went through three therapist before I landed with one who I meshed with, and since then, well...the blog is proof that Ms. Turner is really helping a sister out!
Depression is nothing to be ashamed of, perhaps is just the cross you've blessed to bare in order to make the world a better place. At least that's what I'm telling myself as I Fearlessy Face Depression!
Lets chose to make it a great day!
