Hi there, I’m Michelle. I’m a social studies teacher living in Amsterdam with my boyfriend and our two cats. The first thing you need to know about me is that I need coffee to wake up and start my day. That is why I carry a travel mug full of coffee around in the morning. Furthermore, I like to read; my favorite book of all time is Harry Potter. Currently, I am reading Americanah from Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - a must read. In the weekends, I often go shopping with my sister (and again, drink lots of coffee together). Next to shopping and reading, I am always up for a hike in the woods. Next week, I am actually going to De Veluwe with my family, a beautiful area of the Netherlands where we can escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.

I always wanted to become a teacher because I dream of inspiring and guiding others in becoming critical thinkers when it comes to social and political issues. I would like to become a world teacher, because I would like to teach in other countries as well, especially in African countries. I am also passionate about cultural differences; my educational background is in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology. Last year I carried out research in Tanzania (see picture) and I absolutely loved it! Hopefully, I will be able to do an internship in South Africa next year. Currently, I am working in a secondary school in Sassenheim, which is in the Netherlands.

I am very excited to take part in the ICLIL project. My partner in crime will be Stephan.

Let me know who you are! All the best, Michelle
