Mick Kipp’s excitement for life is like a force field that radiates from his gregarious and animated persona. Mick Kipp, a.k.a Mick the Pirate, started his specialty foods career in his apartment kitchen in December 1996, when he created a hot sauce to give as Christmas Gifts to his friends and family. What started out as a one time, something fun to do idea, turned into a full time Specialty Foods business. Mick has worked in the food service industry since the age of 16. In 1983 Mick moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a Hollywood Stuntman and got a job working at a Gourmet Wine Bar and Deli to support himself. Mick worked as a stuntman for over 18 years, supporting himself as a bartender and cook in LA, Cleveland and Baltimore. After his first trip to New Orleans in 2000, Mick decided it was time to retire from stunts and devote all his time to the Whiskey Island Pirate Shop! Today, with over 30 years in the food service industry, as a Manager, Menu Consultant, Cook, Caterer and Bartender, Mick has taken Whiskey Island from a one sauce kitchen dream and turned it into a complete Specialty Foods business, that includes product development, production and distribution, offering an assortment of 10 different Sauces and Salsa and 22 different Dry Rubs and Specialty Seasonings under the Whiskey Island Brand. Mick has won an assortment of Specialty Food Awards including 2nd and 3rd Place Awards at the 2005 Fiery Foods Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Awards at the 2006 Scovie Awards in Sante Fe, New Mexico and 7 “Best of Baltimore” Awards from Baltimore Magazine and Baltimore City Paper between 1987 and 2004.. Along with Specialty Foods production, Mick also specializes in catering and creating themed events which include Pig Roasts, his beloved Crawfish Boils, Cajun and Creole Dinners, Mardi Gras Banquets and Barbecue Feasts. Mick is also the author of “Mick’s Beer Guide”, a review of the growing beer market in the late 1980’s, published in 1989, and Creator and Host of “Eat My Stuff wth Mick the Pirate”, a 30 minute real time cooking show based in Baltimore. His “Pirate Style Cooking” show has earned him a 2008 Vollie Award for “Best On Camera Talent” and a 2008 Telly Video Production Award. Mick is now in production on an “Eat My Stuff” Video Cookbook and 4 more “Eat My Stuff” Cooking Shows.
