Miga began her professional career in international development, and worked with the United Nations Population Fund in Mongolia for five years.
She joined Health Canada in 2004, focusing on gender equality and women’s health issues. Since 2006, Miga has worked on regulatory cooperation with international partners including the World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO). She truly believes in the possibility of improving the health of the world population by learning from the best practices of different countries.
She enjoys working on challenging projects and developing strategic collaborations. For example, she led the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative for Health Canada and worked on regulatory capacity building projects and organised workshops in African and Latin American countries.
An area of particular interest is gender equality. A career highlight was contributing to the revision of the Health Canada’s Guidance document on inclusion of women in clinical trials. In addition, she works with various non-profit organisations on gender equality issues.
At her current position, she engages in complex issues related to gender equality in public health context and leads her team in advancing Government of Canada’s renewed commitment to Sex and Gender based Analysis + (SGBA+) in Public Health Agency of Canada’s science, policies and programs.
Between 2009 and 2015, she received six Assistant Deputy Minister’s Awards for various achievements and contributions.
Miga holds a Bachelor's degree from Saint-Petersburg University in International Journalism and a Master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from York University.
Fun fact: Miga speaks four languages: English, French, Russian and Mongolian.
