Mignon McPherson Stewart

I am a theatre artist, based in Chicago. I have directed new work by writers including Lydia R. Diamond, Ifa Bayeza, Nambi E. Kelley and Gloria Bond Clunie. My interest is in plays that bring voices to the theater that are seldom heard - in particular work that explores contemporary lives of African Americans. I seek to develop and collaborate on work that expresses the complexity of life in America today. I am also drawn to plays that are not bound by traditional methods of storytelling but experiment with the art form incorporating "magical" or "spiritual" elements, media, dance - whatever is needed to tell the story.
