Miguel Fernández Flores
Director and Producer/Shooter in NYC
I’m a New York-based Mexican documentary director and producer/shooter with over 15 years of experience. Currently, I’m co-directing a three-part series for Netflix with Muck Media, set to air in 2026. In 2024, I directed an episode for the fifth season of Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller, the multi-Emmy-winning National Geographic series, also as a freelancer for Muck Media.
Previously, I spent nine years as a staff Senior Field/Producer-Shooter at VICE News in New York, working across all stages of production—from pre to field to post—while traveling throughout Latin America and the US to produce and film documentaries and podcasts. My work spanned both short and long formats for flagship shows like VICE News Tonight and weekly series on HBO, Showtime and Hulu, as well as podcasts such as VICE News Reports, El Hilo, and other VICE Audio productions.

Before VICE, I worked as a video journalist in Barcelona and Madrid (2006–2014), filming and editing hundreds of news videos with 24-hour turnarounds as a one-man band.
Before working in journalism, I was a junior criminal lawyer in Mexico City.
I speak fluent English, French and Spanish.
