Mikaela Smith is a journalist, writer, and media contributor from Brooklyn, N.Y. She is dedicated to being a voice for marginalized communities, in particular Black women and girls. Her work focuses on issues of race, gender, and popular culture. She has used her time at both Claremont McKenna College and Spelman College to hone her voice and skill as writer, with involvement in publications and journalism programs at both institutions respectively. Off campus, Mikaela has worked on her own online magazine targeted to young women of color. Her byline appears in Atlanta’s leading alt weekly, Creative Loafing, and Rolling Out magazine.
