Blessed…Being a Guide Runner to Paralympic sprint finalist Libby Clegg. Libby is a visually impaired athlete who suffers from a deteriorating eye condition known as Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy disease. Libby has only slight peripheral vision in her left eye. As Libby’s guide, on the track, I’m her eyes and support mechanism. We use a guide rope which is attached to by her left hand and my right hand, once attached we run in sync (opposite arm/opposite leg). It is very important that I match her stride for stride, if for any reason we fall out of sync and our stride pattern falls, it is down to me to make the adjustments needed because this could determine whether she wins gold or comes last. The Dream...In the London 2012, Paralympic games, myself and Libby won a silver medal in the T12 100m final (12.13), just missing out on the gold by 0.08 of a second. Even though we missed out on the gold, we achieved three life time best, one of which was a world record in the first round (12.17), breaking the previous record (12.32), which stood for eight years prior. At the 2013 IPC World Championships,in Lyon, we achieved two sliver medals in both the 100m and 200m finals. Our next focus was the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, we won the 2014 Commonwealth Games T11/T12 100m with a run of 12.20 seconds, a world-leading time for the year. Shortly afterwards we attended the Europeans in Swansea where I captained the GB Team.
