I always believed that photographs help tell the story of our lives, way better than any written words. They’re the little bookmarks that brings us back to that special moment in time. From Engagements to Weddings, to Anniversaries to come, I’d love to help tell your story.
A brief history: I first picked up a camera back in middle school and shot with film rolls from Walgreens. I honestly just loved taking pictures! When the first digital camera’s (first ones I saw was 2 MegaPixels) started sprouting up for $400-500 in 2003, I began shooting as a hobby photographer, with a Sony DSC-P32 (point-and-shoot), capturing many moments amongst my friends and family. Then a little later I went for an upgrade to a Sony W-7. Then while in high school I went back to shooting with film for my photography class, and was actually able to learn how to develop my own roll of film in the darkroom. So I knew the concept of why certain shots turn out the way they do, and how to achieve proper shots. Then a couple years later a few entry level DSLR’s started sprouting up among my friends; But I still strongly believed that you didn’t need a camera like that to shoot “good” photos. However, my photography was challenged when I realized on a trip with some friends in 2009 out in Seattle that my photos weren’t turning out to what I wanted with a simple point-and shoot Sony W-7. Even though I was shooting in Manual Mode like they were on their DSLR’s, I was very limited to what I can produce with that point-and-shoot.
So, I did some research and got my hands on a Nikon DSLR and began learning techniques quick, (having already learned so much with the smaller cameras) I started more detailed work making photographs, instead of just taking pictures. As a freelance photographer I covered some local weddings for friends who were on a tight budget, and just wanted someone who had a nice camera. While doing this I was able to continue expanding my personal portfolio and helped out the friends who just wanted some coverage at their wedding.
Long story short; Now I use my own unique style of contemporary photojournalism to tell the story behind each wedding. With investing in new equipment as well as equipment I already had used at previous weddings and events; Based in San Leandro I have access to a major part of the Bay Area as my canvas. Aside from shooting locally, i’d love to be invited to shoot destination weddings as well.
