Mike Cullen

Photo Editor, Photo Researcher, and curator in Brooklyn, New York

My best days are when I can be part of a sharp, inventive team and make a positive contribution such as making some cool art, finding the right photo, crafting the perfect tweet, sharing information and training, editing a portfolio, or it might be just making a suggestion or sharing a nifty idea in a brainstorming session. My overriding impulse is to try to make the world a little bit better a day at a time.

I spent a good part of my career at Corbis Images, researching photos for editorial clients. More recently, I was the Photo Specialist at John Wiley & Sons, helping to research, edit, and generally keep track of all the photos used in Wiley's Global Education division. Then I spent some time freelancing as a Photo Editor for a major children's book publisher. Now I'm a Photo Editor with WW Norton & Co., keeping track of a stable of college textbook titles.

I have a fair amount of experience with PhotoShop, making my own art. I also keep up with other Adobe Creative Cloud programs like Premiere, Illustrator, and InDesign by taking classes when I can.

In 2014, I was selected to become a charter member of the Visura.co Guild, an invite-only website and networking platform for photographers and photo editors. For a time I ran Visura's Twitter and Instagram feeds.

I was also Background Talent on a number of TV and movie productions here in NYC, thanks to Central Casting and Sylvia Fay Casting. I've also taken classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade on Improv and sketch writing.
