J. Michael Evans

J. Michael Evans splits his time between Tustin, California and Branson, Missouri. When not creating masterpieces in his workshop, Mike spends his time playing music on stage. When in California, he plays upright bass with the South Coast Symphony and in Branson he performs in “The Shepherd of the Hills” Outdoor drama. His love of wood inspires him to design many different and interesting pieces of wood art.

Mike is a self-taught wood turner who has been turning for close to 20 years. He has been married to his wife, Freda for the past 33 years. He has two separate wood studios, one in California and one in Missouri.

Using local woods as well as exotic timbers, each turned item is unique. From bowls, platters and pens to mushrooms, tea light candles, Christmas Ornaments and honey dippers - all are individually handcrafted on a wood lathe. After being turned, each piece is sanded, buffed and oiled until the natural color of the wood shines through. Each piece will receive up to 10 or more coats of oil, and then allowed to cure for several days before a final buffing.

It is not until Michael is completely happy with the finished product that he will allow it to be presented to the public.

He hopes that you enjoy his art.
