Milhous Childrens Service
Nevada City, CA
Based in Nevada City, California, Milhous Children’s Service has served as a residential treatment program for children and teens between the ages of 10 and 19 since 1968. The treatment center, which features activities ranging from outdoor adventures to academic lessons, accepts children with a variety of disabilities and negative patterns of behavior, including emotional and learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and other psychiatric diagnoses. Teachers and therapists engaged in treatment plans at Milhous Children’s Service focus on a set of established core values that help to foster a solid work ethic and a sense of communal giving in all students. The academic curriculum, meanwhile, covers subjects ranging from literature and composition to the sciences.
Male students live and work through their disorders and disabilities at the Milhous campus in Nevada County, while females are located at the Sacramento County campus. The organization maintains a number of additional facilities, such as the Penn Valley Crow’s Nest Program and The Orchards at Bar Du.
