Milton Coy is the 2013 winner of the Caribbean Media Awards on water.
Journalist and Station Manager at GTC Radio in Grenada, Mr. Milton Coy, has claimed the top spot in the 2013 Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Media Awards on Water. Mr. Coy’s radio submission comprised of a series of public awareness programmes under the themes “Water Conservation and Best Practices in Water Management.”
According to the judges, Mr. Coy’s radio submissions were “relevant, creative, fresh and insightful.” The judges felt that the various programmes covered water issues that would get the general public’s attention and that key messages were clearly communicated. The panel also recognised Mr. Coy’s ability to touch on several water related issues in different ways through interviews and call-in sessions.
Coy, who is also the Dean of Studies at CAMS Media Institute (CMI) told colleagues at CMI that "advocacy journalism is becoming an effective means of communication both to citizens and policymakers".
"We need to see more persons with an interest in media also considing advocacy journalism as a viable option for a career in the media......... because advocacy has become a catalyst for change" Coy said.
Coy, who hails from Carriacou hosts several programs on GTC Radio FM 89.9/90.5 & www.gtcfm.com: Rise & Shine - week days from 6:00 to 9:00 AM; Nite Life - 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM and Sundays Live on Sundays from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
