Miriam Margles
I'm a rabbi, artist, educator and activist, currently living and working in Toronto's Jewish community. Integrating Jewish learning, community building, and creative exploration through music, movement, and writing, I facilitate workshops with various populations, including communities in conflict, women in prison, Israeli agunot (Jewish women denied a divorce by their husbands) and the next generation. I am the co-founder of Encounter, dedicated to strengthening the capacity of the Jewish people to be constructive agents of change in transforming the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A composer of original liturgical music as well as a published poet, I've worked with the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, TOVA Artistic Projects for Social Change, and The Nesiya Institute. I'm an alumna of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship and the Jerusalem Fellows at the Mandel Leadership Institute. I hold a Master's degree in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing from York University. I'm in the process of recording an album of Jewish prayersongs. Stay tuned!
