A wise feminist once said "the personal is political." And while society is making strides towards equality, we continue to live in a world full of increasing mental illness, addiction, stigma, ignorant hatred, and educational upheaval.
If you're curious to learn about mental health and addiction from both a personal and professional perspective, explore the intersection of mental health and education, and delve into the role socialization has on girls' & women's self-worth from a feminist perspective then this is the place for you. It's a bit heavy, I know. But don't worry--I'm a big goof at heart and know how to spin a little fun, snark, and hope into these otherwise heavy topics. It's us social workers' secret super power!
As a mental health therapist and a person diagnosed with Bipolar II in my late twenties, I have a unique perspective on mental health. I understand all too well the pain that people with mental illness experience. Working as an individual and group therapist, I have added compassion for my clients as I support adolescents and their families in navigating the tumultuous nature of mental illness and recovery. This blog chronicles both my own struggle with mental illness and addiction and the many interventions and strategies I have learned through my professional training as a psychotherapist. The intention of this blog is to share my stories in a relatable way, bring hope to others who struggle, and further work to irradiate the stigma of mental illness.
When I'm not working as a mental health therapist or writing about my experiences, I enjoy running, yoga, and backpacking in the mountains. I'm an avid traveller and tea drinker, closeted swing dancer, and a born baker.
I hope you'll join me on this journey, share you own stories with me, and add your feedback in the comments below.
Sending love, hope, and grace with you on your journey!
