Michael Goymerac
Hello and welcome to my about.me webpage. I am currently a 23 year old individual studying at the beautiful Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. My undergraduate degree, in Environmental Engineering, will be fully completed this June 2012. I am very excited to be entering the working world as a professional in my field. In anticipation for this I have created this page as a portal to share with you a little about me. I have also provided links below to my LinkedIn and blog websites.
Regarding my classwork and experience:
Cal Poly's motto, "learn by doing," is evident in that we are expected to complete a design senior project spanning over 6 months working with a team of 11 other Civil and Environmental engineering students. This year's project revolves around upgrading the San Luis Obispo Wastewater Treatment facility. Last spring I completed weekly alkalinity tests for influent and effluent water samples from algae wastewater ponds. Recently in the winter of 2012 I assisted two graduate students with their dairy waste digestion project by building two gas meters to record the amount of biogas produced. I have lab experience in basic chemistry and organic chemistry as well as water quality tests including: pH, alkalinity, turbidity, coagulation-flocculation & jar testing, dissolved oxygen, BOD, and coliform bacteria counts. One of my favorite classes at Cal Poly was called Industrial Pollution Prevention. This class had a lab run by representatives from Tetra Tech Inc. In this lab we got to do numerous pollution prevention and energy evaluation projects. I also have taken a graduate level biological wastewater treatment class.
Regarding my future profession:
My time spent as an undergraduate engineer at Cal Poly has given me the tools to perform and excel in a technical workplace. Cal Poly Engineering's "hand's on" approach means I spent more time in labs and in team-based projects than other engineering programs. Cal Poly has one of few Environmental Engineering programs in the nation. A recent article by CNN listed Environmental Engineering as number 5 of the best 200 jobs in America. Environmental Engineers are in demand more than ever before. I am excited about meeting the nation's civil and environmental needs as a professional in the decades to come as the resources we've come to enjoy become scarcer.
