Matt Kehoe
Hello there and welcome to my page!
I am currently a junior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst studying Resource Economics. I recently decided that I want to double major and take on Sport Management, so I am hoping that I will get accepted after applying at the end of the fall semester. Throughout my entire life I have participated in sports and I figured I could take sport one step further.
I was born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts, Southie, or "God's Country" as some like to call it. The town has made me everything I am today. Growing up in the city I was blessed with four amazing sport franchises with the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots. I have been an avid fan of all of them for as long as I can remember. Some people cheer for sports teams who struggle every year, never have winning records, and may never have a chance to win a championship. I have witnessed all four of my teams win championships, some more than once. Boston is really the "Title Town" of the United States.
Sophomore year of college I was out golfing with some friends when I started getting phone calls from my friends saying that bombs had gone off at the Boston Marathon. Being from the city this really took hold of me. A week or so later i attended the first Bruins home game since the incident. Being at the game and seeing how everyone came together as one really was amazing and at that point I knew that a future in sports was what I wanted to do.
I found it amazing how one sporting event, even just for a few hours, could take people's minds off the bombing. I want to become part of an organization that has the power to give back to the people. Sports are always going to be around and no matter what there are going to be fans to cheer for certain teams. I am not sure what part of the industry I want to go in to but whether it be sales, management, or marketing, I know that I will be helping and giving back to the people of this great city.
