Hi, I am Melissa Leduc (formerly LeRoy, which is what I am still registered under at Queen's)! I am a secondary teacher in my tenth year of teaching. I grew up in Eastern Ontario and teach in the same school board that I went to school in. I studied Biology and Geography at Queen's and completed the Concurrent Education program there in 2009. I have taught mostly in small rural schools so I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of subjects at the high school level. The subjects I have taught the most often are science, geography and math.

After teaching for 2 years in Ontario, I took a leave from my board and did a brief international teaching job at an Ontario curriculum school in Malaysia. I had an incredible experience there working with a diverse group of students and travelling to a number of countries in Asia on our school holidays.

I am currently on maternity leave with my second child. I have a 7 month old son and a 2 year old daughter. Every day is busy, chaotic and wonderful being at home the kids. I have been married for 3 years to a dairy farmer. I also grew up on a dairy farm, so although teaching is my focus, I do spend a lot of time helping on the farm as well. As much as I am enjoying my time with the kids, I am looking forward to heading back to school for second semester.

I took Part 1 of this course a few years back so I am looking forward to expanding on what was learned in that course. I am hoping to gain more knowledge on how to support students with issues they are currently facing and strategies for helping them prepare for the future. I do hope to eventually become part of our guidance department at school, but in the meantime, I know the skills learned in this course will also be very helpful in any classroom setting. I am looking forward to many great discussions and learning from all of you as well!
