For quite a while, I have been tinkering with computers and their conjunction with cameras to make them 'see' the patterns in the world around them.

What, then, is the basic difference between today's computer and an intelligent being? It is that the computer can be made to see but not to perceive.

During my career, I worked on how to make a computer not only 'see' but also to get a spontaneous grasp of pattern, to observe and analyse the surroundings, and act accordingly. Together it forms a capacity essential for perception and intelligence.
