Meaghan McMurrich
Teacher, Artist, and coach in Halton/Hamilton
Hello, I’m Meaghan McMurrich. I am a secondary teacher working in Oakville for the Halton Catholic District School Board. I graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Art , and Graduated from Trent University with my B.Ed. in 2019. My teaching qualifications are I/S Visual Arts, I/S Geography, Senior Environmental Science and Senior Social Sciences. I recently received a permanent teaching position for Visual Arts and Photography/Yearbook and my courses are split between the technology and arts department. Fortunately, my school offers a lot of technologies courses for students to take. Generally, I am quite comfortable with using technology in my teaching practice. But as I am now working in the technology department, I would like to learn more about techniques and strategies to help further enhance my courses. I believe that technology can be used to enhance critical thinking and critical literacy skills, evaluating the legitimacy and accuracy of online content is the central part of 21st century education. I also think the Covid19 pandemic has reinforced the need for strong technological literacy for both students and educators alike.
On a personal level, I am 26 years old, born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and I am a practicing artist. I specialized in painting during my Fine Art degree, and I am also interested and well versed in Photography and Graphic design. My other hobbies include, video games, playing and coaching basketball, tennis, skiing/snowboarding and traveling. I excited and looking forward to getting to know my peers in this course and the opportunity to collaborate and learn from them.
