Dr. Mohamad Kassem

I am an Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Engineering Project Management at Teesside University and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). I have an MEng (First Class) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Marche Polytechnic University (Italy) and an MSc (distinction) in Engineering Project Management from Teesside University (UK). I have research interests in the areas of: IT Applications in Engineering Projects and Built Environment; Building Information Modelling; Virtual Reality; Enterprise Modelling, and Decision Support Systems.

I have published tens of papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences in the last 2 years.

I have obtained research funding of about £ 1M in 2012 / 2013 for three TSB co-funded projects (KTP £360000 in total) and one National Priorities Research Program project (£ 553000 by Qatar Foundation). On all these project I am acting as co-principal investigator. I have also obtained a ‘British Council Grant - Internationalising Higher Education’ to develop collaboration and links with Ural State University in Yekaterinburg, Russia. I am involved in the EC (European Commission) funded FP7 project ‘SEMANCO Semantic Tools for Carbon Reduction in Urban Planning’ by contributing to the development of IPR (Intellectual Property Right) management plan.

In 2012, I was invited as a presenter to the ‘18th Annual Canadian Construction Forum’. I am a member of the scientific and organising committee of ‘ConVR’ (International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality). I am currently the coordinator of CONVR 2013 that will be held in London on Oct 30th - 31st at the Millenium Gloucester Hotel. I am a peer reviewer for a number of international journal and conferences.
