Global Development Network Award for Most Innovative Project-2000.
I won the Global Development Network Award for Most Innovative Project in December 2000 for my work in devising the Rogi Kalyan Samiti concept. The entry was selected out of over 160 entries from around the world. The Jury included The President of the World Bank, The President of the ADB, Two Nobel Prize Winners and six other leading experts. The concept involves management of public hospitals with people’s participation. This has now been institutionalized in all public hospitals of the state and has become the basic model for hospitals across the country under the National Rural Health Mission. I donated the award amount of $125,000 for propagation of the RKS concept.
