Moira MacDonald

Everyone has a story. My job is to dig it out and tell it well.

I cover education stories for National Post and am a regular contributor to University Affairs magazine. I wrote a twice-weekly column for more than a decade on education issues for Sun Media. My work has appeared in Today's Parent, The Christian Science Monitor, and Thailand's The Nation newspaper. To round it all out, I've written for Dog World and Piledriver magazines too -- ask if you'd like to know more!

The education beat has it all -- politics, finances, land deals, up-and-coming trends, drama and some very poignant personal stories. Education reporters are often the first to see budding politicians arrive on the scene. I've followed Ontario's premier, Kathleen Wynne, ever since she was first elected as a school trustee in 2000!

In addition to my journalism work, I undertake writing and editing assignments for a variety of organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Teaching at Ryerson University's and Centennial College's journalism schools has given me a new perspective on the beat I cover, time to reflect on my craft, and the opportunity to work with the next generation of journalists. It definitely keeps me on my toes.
