Hi! I'd love to connect!

I currently serve as a Coordinator for secondary literacy/social studies in a Dallas area ISD, & was in the classroom for 18 years (grades 7-12). Over the years, I have also been an instructional coach, department lead, intervention coordinator, & developer of academic programs serving those most at risk of not graduating. For that reason, my specialty was working with students disenfranchised from education, as well as in STEaM learning/PBL. Prior to teaching, I was a social worker in the criminal justice, family services, and medical communities. My work with people and environments I design for learning typically has a focus on reaching the most marginalized stakeholders through innovative learning, disciplinary literacy, engagement thru writing & discourse, & the integration of as much maker- & inquiry-based learning as possible. If I can infuse some STEaM learning with writing & discussion, that's my happy place!

In addition to this, I have managed larger budgets/projects, supervised teams, developed academic/social skills curriculums for campuses/districts, managed robotics teams, & helped build bridges for students/families who lack access & connection to the learning opportunities they need & deserve.

I currently serve as the President of the North Texas Council for Teachers of English Language Arts, providing quality networking & professional learning opportunities to educators in N. Texas. Developing my leadership skillset is important to my professional growth & managing the board, planning large conferences, & developing small-scale online learning have really challenged me so positively!

Finally, I still teach. Freshman composition & developmental reading/writing classes for both traditional/non-traditional students at a local community college.

For Corporate, Non-Profit & Educational Employers: I am able to provide consulting for literacy, tutoring or writing program development; partnership development with public schools; general project management & organizational support; & leadership development/capacity building for virtually any field, including technical environments.

Cormac McCarthy's young boy in his Pulitzer-winning book The Roadasks each person he meets in the now post-apocalyptic world of despair - “Hey, do you carry the fire?” This is my favorite question.

Yes, I do. Let's light our candles at it. It only takes a spark, and it's inside of us.
