Molly Adams
Teacher, Writer, and Educational Consultant in Waxahachie, Texas
I am in my third year as a Secondary ELAR Instructional and Curriculum Coach for grades 7-12 Ellis County, and was in the classroom with grades 7-12 for 18 years. My specialty for many years was working with students at greatest risk, as well as in STEaM learning and PBL. Prior to going into education. I was a Licensed Masters Social Worker in both the criminal justice and medical communities. My instruction and classroom environment typically have a focus on reaching disenfranchized students through innovative learning opportunities, disciplinary literacy engagement, and the integration of as much maker-based and inquiry-based learning with literacy as possible. My goal is facilitating a space to ask and develop more questions, not just provide answers. Now as an instructional coach I focus on helping teachers set up independent structures for reading and writing workshop, as well as helping our district develop a balanced literacy framework for grades K-12.
A teacher consultant with National Writing Project's local site North Star of Texas Writing Project since 2009, I also currently work as a professional development provider for NWP (and Educator Innovator) and continue to work as a fellow in NWP's/NEXMAP's Hacking the Notebook initiative, which is an integration of flat circuitry, literacy, and production centered learning. I have presented at several national conferences regarding this work including NCTE and SXSWedu.
I also have been a FIRST Robotics Teacher Mentor and Coach since 2009, and continue to provide consultation for helping those set up teams and effective programs, though I am no longer a team coach.
