Monica Goyal

Vice President of Legal Innovation in Toronto, ON

I am Monica Goyal, a Toronto-based legal innovator working at the intersection of law and technology. As Vice President of Legal Innovation at Caravel Law, I lead enterprise AI transformation initiatives focused on improving how legal services are delivered. My work centers on using tools like generative AI, workflow automation, and large language models to drive efficiency while also expanding access to legal support.

My career path has not been traditional. I started in engineering, earning a BASc from the University of Waterloo and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Stanford. I later pursued law at the University of Toronto and was called to the bar in 2009. Being both a lawyer and a professional engineer has shaped how I approach problem-solving.

I founded My Legal Briefcase and Aluvion Law to explore how technology can improve access to legal services. Teaching has also been an important part of my journey, and I continue to lecture in legal technology.

I am passionate about innovation, but I measure success by impact. I believe small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful change over time, both within the legal profession and in broader society.
