Monica Williams

Editor, Writer, and innovator in Global

I'm a journalist who's worked on staff at The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Detroit News, the Korea JoongAng Daily in Seoul and other publications. I've also contributed to National Geographic, The Washington Post, South China Morning Post and The Independent (U.K.).

After raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for newsrooms and journalists, I'm building Grants for Journalists as a 2025-26 Reynolds Journalism Institute fellow. I'm also on the Fulbright Specialist roster for 2025-2028.

A voracious reader, I'm passionate about great independent bookstores and gorgeous libraries, theater, thrifting, finance, environmental issues, immigration/borders, the African diaspora, and the Global South.

To cultivate my love for exploration and lifelong learning, I hop a plane or hike with my dog whenever I can. I've touched down in many cities and nearly 70 countries. A certified ESL/EFL teacher and former immigrant in Asia and Latin America, I once quit the job I loved to travel and live around the world.
