Monica Brown

Producer and Educator in Glasgow

I am a Producer and Educator living in Glasgow. I have been working in radio for more than 12 years combining my love of audio with other facilitating and teaching roles. I have worked at BBC Radio Scotland and freelance on packages, recording and editing programmes and podcasts for independent production companies and BBC Radio.

I have a background in community work and a strong belief in giving people a voice, so my interests have driven my work in many directions. As well as working as a freelance reporter and producer for BBC Radio Scotland I set up and ran the HMP Barlinnie Radio Station facilitating prisoners to present and produce daily programmes.

I am comfortable working in Different environments with a variety of people and have made audio tours and recorded oral histories. I had a BBC2 TV documentary commissioned and I am the co-founder and co-producer of Glasgow's Lights Out Listening Group, a listening event held in the dark. I am also a continuity announcer and outreach producer for Radiophrenia, an annual arts radio transmission in Glasgow.

I recently completed the Foundations of Human Relations and Counselling Course at Human Development Scotland. I was granted a sabbatical from my lecturing position in August 2022 and have been travelling in South America getting my Spanish fluency back and working on my own podcast.
