Mónica (she/her) is a global women’s rights activist and gender equality advocate, specializing in intersectional feminist movement-building and advocacy capacity-sharing.

With degrees in Theatre Education, Social Advocacy, International Development Policy and Gender Studies, Mónica is armed with a diverse and dynamic arsenal of approaches to human rights and gender justice advocacy. In lieu of a gender lens, Mónica approaches her work through a gendered prism; recognizing and centering the innate intersectionality of our humanity in her work to close the vast power and inequality gap between local gender justice activists and global decision makers. Specifically to ensure that girls, womxn & LGBTQIA+ folks are not only at the center of policymaking but the authors thereof.

A Third Culture Kid, Mónica hails from Portugal and Norway by way of the UK and the Netherlands, and speaks five languages. Mónica has lived and worked in Nicaragua, Kenya, Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, and Timor-Leste on human rights issues ranging from gender-based violence to menstrual health and hygiene to transitional justice and peace-building.

Mónica is a proud Board Member of Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative (ECOWA), a grassroots women’s rights and peace-building organization in Nigeria, and Advocacy Advisor to Smashworks Dance, a feminist dance company in New York City.
