As Vice President of Administration & Planning and Board Director of Highway Inn Inc., Monica balances initiatives for company growth while maintaining the spirit and purpose of the family restaurant, seafood market, and catering business. Monica Toguchi's management role encompasses finance, administrative, and strategic planning, which keeps Highway Inn operating each day. Monica Toguchi and her sister, Regina, represents the third generation at the helm of Highway Inn, which was started by their grandfather, Seiichi Toguchi, in Waipahu, Hawaii, in 1947. Today, Monica Toguchi builds on Highway Inn's commitment to providing its customers fresh, local, quality Hawaiian & American foods that have been a family tradition for over 60 years.
Monica Toguchi has served Highway Inn in various capacities. Starting as the Office Manager, Monica Toguchi developed many of Highway Inn's human resource policies and procedures. Monica Toguchi also created promotional materials to boost Highway Inn's presence as a premier foodservice provider. Monica Toguchi's prior Highway Inn roles prepared her for her responsibilities in both administration and function planning. In recent years, Monica Toguchi has assisted Highway Inn in achieving numerous awards, including Honolulu Advertiser's Best of the Best Hawaiian Restaurant award in 2009, a Fastest Fifty Finalist distinction on Pacific Business News' 2008 list, and Small Business Administration (SBA) status as a Family-Owned Business of Honolulu in 2006.
Previous to her current role, Monica Toguchi forged her own path through the nationally recognized Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program at the University of Oregon from 2002-2009. Monica Toguchi earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and her Master's in Counseling and Guidance, both from the University of Hawaii, and participates in her local Chamber of Commerce's Education and Human Resource Committees. Monica Toguchi's hospitality-related affiliations include memberships in the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Association of Catering Executives, and the Family Business Center of Hawaii at the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii.
