Monique “Monistry” James was born and raised in the inner-city of Chicago, IL. At 6 years old, she began training in traditional ballet, modern, jazz, afro-caribbean and tap dance. She studied under the legendary teachings of Jimmy Payne & Lorie Gough at The Englewood Children’s Dance Company and continued dancing until her early adult years. Monistry was born into a family of singers and musician. Most of her early years, she was a member of gospel group “His Will” which included her mother and two older sisters. “His Will” sang at churches and outdoor events throughout Chicago’s Metropolitan area. When Monistry was 17 years old she was chosen to be a member of a contemporary gospel trio, “Faces Of Faith”, formed by prominent gospel music producer and pianist Daniel Weatherspoon.
During Monistry’s teen years, she was also appointed to be one of the youth praise and worship leaders at Valley Kingdom Ministries International where she served as a youth leader as well. Monistry has always had a passion for the Arts and been very involved in ministry, but she discovered that as a praise and worship leader she could freely use her instrument for whom she loved most, Father God. In 2005, two years after marrying best friend and music producer Marquis James, Monistry and her family moved to Danville, KY to serve at “Faith Church”. Monistry sang on the praise team and also served in the Children’s ministry. In 2008, her family relocated to Orlando Florida and upon returning to Kentucky in 2009, Monistry was hired at “Faith Church” as Minister of Music where she currently serves as praise and worship leader and her husband as Media Director.
Monistry and Marquis have also co-written songs for gospel artists such as Phil Tarver- (“Believe”), Shekinah Glory Ministries- (“Higher”, “Worthy”), Dexter Walker and Zion Movement- (“He Lives”), Chad Higgins and ISIT- (“Master Plan”) as well as other artists. Monistry has a heart for God, cutting-edge image, and unique rock and contemporary christian sound! Monistry is currently working on her debut album which will be released late 2011 by Musicland ENT. The definition of “Monistry” is “Wise ambassador and servant of God! Chosen to help reconcile (draw) God’s people back to Him! (2
