Montessori Shir-Hashirim operates two campuses in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, California. Welcoming students between 2 and 6 years old, the school's educators practice the philosophy that each child has capabilities and interests that should be encouraged. Rather than expecting children to learn at a standard pace, Montessori Shir-Hashirim encourages students to learn spontaneously without external pressure from their teachers.
Montessori Shir-Hashirim also offers students the opportunity to thrive in a mixed-age environment. With this method of learning, the older or more experienced children naturally help the younger ones with their activities. The Montessori educational method purposely facilitates this learning structure in order to promote the importance of social responsibility and positive role models. The younger children develop the ability to respect the older children, which enhances cooperation. They also develop an understanding that they will assume the role of a leader someday and have an important set of responsibilities.
