As the daughter of an artist and an entrepreneur, I pride myself on being curious and creative. As a child, which was before the invention of Wikipedia, my favorite thing to do was to read through our set of World Book Encyclopedias. Yes, I read every volume cover to cover! While my friends daydreamed about what they wanted to do or where they wanted to live when they grew up, I was busy doing research in my World Book.

In 1992, when the grunge scene reached my idyllic, suburban town, I was captivated by the music and the fashion. Having never been to Seattle, I immediately reached for my World Book to learn all about the city. It was then that I was disappointed to learn that those flannel shirts weren't just a fashion statement but rather a necessity of Seattle’s dismal weather. While I continued to rock my ripped jeans and flannel shirts throughout the brutal South Florida summers, thanks to my trusty encyclopedia, I put my daydream of moving to the Emerald City away.

Fast forward a couple of decades and I am now proud to call Fort Lauderdale my hometown. While it is just 30 minutes from where I grew up, it is a world away from the cookie-cutter, planned community from which I raised. I live in the heart of the city; walking distance from some of the best restaurants and cultural activities in the area. I am a proud supporter of the Gator Nation, a partner in crime to my left-brained husband Peter and an indentured servant to the two most mischievous dogs, Lucy and Bruno.
