From my early childhood until now, I have lived a life of “one shot at a time.” I have spent countless hours training to fill the dreams of my future. Ever since I could walk, I was guided down the path of learning to play golf. My father and grandfather gave me the nudge towards the sport. They wanted me to learn patience, self-discipline, and the importance of making decisions. Golf is an individual game that requires you to think about the both the present and future, simultaneously. Sometimes, the game can even cause you to dwell on the past, which I have learned is never good. You can look back on the great moments and reminisce, but it is never ideal to be held back by the more unpleasant moments of your past. When you are on the tee box, you envision how you want to play the hole, but you don’t know the path until the hole is over. Before beginning college, I never knew what my future after high school would look like, except for the vision I had that I was going to try my hardest to get somewhere—wherever somewhere turned out to be. My lessons of self-discipline and personal qualities led me to success and have already given me one of the best shots of my life, which is the opportunity to say “Go Dawgs.”
