Mostafa Yavari

Historian of Science and Astronomer in Tehran

Mostafa Yavari (also known as Mostafa Yavari Ayin) is a Ph.D. candidate in the History of Astronomy at the Institute for the History of Science, University of Tehran, Iran. His research focuses on astronomical tables and mathematical astronomy in the medieval Islamic world. His master's thesis investigated astronomical tables from the Samarkand Observatory. Yavari's research interests include ancient Babylonian and Arabic astronomy, medieval astronomical instruments, astronomical tables, and their connections to astronomical models. He is an expert in reading and analyzing medieval astronomical tables (or Zijes), deciphering their structures, and extracting astronomical data. He is a contributing author to the history of science entries in the Encyclopedia of the Islamic World.
