I grew up in Chile, Spain, and the United States. In 2005, I completed my double major in Finance and International Business from the University of Maryland - one of country's premier universities. Serving as a member of the “Society of Hispanic Engineers” (SHPE) while in college helped me become interested in the engineering industry. This experience ultimately led me to starting a career at Bechtel Corporation, the top Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management (EPCM) company headquartered in the United States.
My career thus far has allowed me to develop a strong foundation of technical, analytical, and leadership skills. Starting off as an estimator in Bechtel’s Power Global Business Unit, located in Frederick, Maryland, permitted me the opportunity to be at the forefront of construction estimates for coal-fired power plants. As successful estimates came to fruition and we increased our backlog of newly awarded work, I relocated to Louisville, Kentucky to partake in the construction management of a pulverized coal-fired power unit (~$1Bill TIC) that I had worked on during my previous estimating role. My commercial acumen and the knowledge of the estimate helped our team successfully complete this new 750MW (net) supercritical power plant unit, which also was one of the cleanest in the world.
After completing this domestic field assignment in 2010, I joined the Mining & Metals Global Business Unit, where I transferred to an international assignment. This assignment afforded me a truly incredible opportunity to start a project from the ground up. The Ras Al Khair Aluminum Smelter project ($4Bill TIC), located in a remote and isolated region of Saudi Arabia, was one of Bechtel’s signature “Megaprojects”. It was delivered to our customer ahead of schedule and under budget, all while having to deal with the hardships of a challenging environment. The project was later awarded the ENR Global Best Projects Award of Merit – a testimony of the project’s safety performance, quality, innovation, and contributions to the local community. As a result of our team’s shared success, I was asked to move back to the United States to a senior role in our Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Business Unit located in Houston, Texas. Presently in this role, I am focused on projects in the Middle East market.
