Dr. Rachael Moyer
Educator, Consultant, and Public Speaker in Mooresville, NC, United States
Originally from Parkersburg, West Virginia, I attended WVU where I studied secondary English education. I moved to NC during the teacher shortage of the 90s, taught for 10 years, and then returned to the classroom to earn my MEd in Gifted Education. In the past, I was an NBCT of world literature and IB TOK, the IB DP coordinator, and a district eLeader as well as a secondary AIG specialist.
After teaching in NC for 18 years, I left the classroom in 2015, to be a full-time IB Coordinator of Diploma and Career-related Programmes at South Iredell High School in Statesville, NC. In this coordinator role serving two prestigious programs for juniors and seniors, I worked with students, teachers, and parents to ensure students' success in rigorous coursework, service learning opportunities, and research.
In 2020, I began my journey as a school administrator in Iredell-Statesville Schools, and in 2021 I completed my degree in Educational Leadership at Appalachian State University. Go Mountaineers (again)! As a narrative researcher, I explored distributed instructional leadership and pedagogical intelligence in an IB MYP context. Essentially, I told stories of hero-leaders in this unique context that creates a push-pull of conflict for leaders who serve multiple metaphorical gods.
I am currently the proud principal of The Brawley School, an IB World School, where I serve the MYP school community. I also continue to work with other IB educators throughout the continuum in my workshop leader, consultant, and program & evaluation leader roles.
Outside of education, I spend quality time with my boys (husband, two sons, and dog) playing outside as much as possible.
